Background to South African Student Speeches

These speeches include the introductions and thanks by South African student leaders before and after Senator Kennedy's speeches. Audio is available for three of these. The speeches at the University of Cape Town and the University of the Witwatersrand, in particular, provided a rare opportunity for the voice of white anti-apartheid students, and NUSAS in particular, to be heard. NUSAS was the non-racial National Union of South African Students who invited Senator Kennedy to South Africa.
